DS Comp 2018!
Welcome to the University of Idaho Student Data Science Competition. Our goal is to promote the Data Science research and education on campus. The first competition will be held March 12th to April 22nd, with two tracks: Machine Learning and Data Visualization. Anyone with an University of Idaho email address is welcome to participate in either or both of the competitions. However, prizes will be limited to currently registered undergraduate and graduate students. See below for more details.
Join us to win fabulous prizes, earn data glory, and learn!
The machine learning competition will ask participants to grade 20,000 handwritten math quizzes. Can you develop a model that performs better than a random guess? Will you climb to the top of our Leaderboard?
Three prizes will be awarded to the top scorers:
- Golden Vandal: a University of Idaho scholarship of $500.
- Silver Vandal: a University of Idaho scholarship of $300.
- Iron Vandal: a University of Idaho scholarship of $200.
The data visualization and story telling competition will ask you to explore the provided dataset and tell us what you learn in a compelling visual manner. The dataset is about Broadway shows grouped over week-long periods since the 1990s, provided by The Broadway League.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three submissions:
- Golden Viz: a University of Idaho scholarship of $500.
- Silver Viz: a University of Idaho scholarship of $300.
- Bronze Viz: a University of Idaho scholarship of $200.
